Effortlessly cool, super stylish, and loads of fun - An art gallery wedding captured by Phil Salisbury.
Beth and Jon’s stylish, intimate, relaxed and fun wedding took place across three venues in the heart of Manchester. Starting with getting ready at The Midland Hotel, then a short walk across the city to Manchester Art Gallery, followed by a super cool reception at Exhibition on St Peter Street (the site of the old Natural History Museum), this day was packed with awesome architecture, art, and plenty of delicious food and drink.
The Midland Hotel was where everyone got ready, with the girls getting their hair and makeup done by Yasmin Schwitzer, while the boys calmly got into their outfits from Edit Suits a little later on (popping some champagne corks along the way). Beth’s classic, elegant dress was from Belgian designer, Maison La Collection, and her bridesmaids wore midnight blue satin gowns and gold heels, all timelessly elegant and chic. The floral arrangements, bouquets and buttonholes from Grace and Thorn made the most of crisp green foliage and seasonal flowers, adding a touch of subtle luxury and looking fab in the autumn light.
After some emotional hugs, Beth and her bridal party walked past some of the city’s landmarks and sculptures to the art gallery on Moseley Street. The ceremony was held in Gallery 16, surrounded by famous paintings by L.S. Lowry and Adolphe Valette, getting married in an art gallery means you’ll always have the best décor on the walls! This crisp and bright exhibition space gave a unique vibe to their ceremony photos, and after they’d said I do we went for a short wander for portraits in front of some more of the impressive works of art on display, before capturing a group photo on the glass staircase in the atrium.
Capturing North East wedding photography takes me all over the place, from the cities and towns to the countryside and beaches – it’s not a bad ol’ job really is it?! Beth and Jon wanted their art gallery wedding photography to be relaxed and natural, so they could celebrate with their family and friends without spending too long posing for formal photos – pretty much my perfect couple to work with, and they’d picked some iconic venues too.
Next stop, the ultra-cool vibes of Exhibition, a restaurant and bar with three award-winning independent kitchens serving incredible food. This was the perfect place for Beth and Jon to relax with their guests, eat, drink, and party hard! After dinner, there were some high-energy speeches, including an epic performance by the bridesmaids who sang Beth her own version of a Taylor Swift song which was met with cheers and huge applause.
Cutting their wedding cake in front of the red neon Ilegal Mescal sign gave me an opportunity for a unique photo, it was really fun to capture this moment in a quirky and artistic way. Then it was time to get on the dance floor, down some shots and party into the night with singer Anna Kathryn Lynch and DJ Rev Austin Sherman keeping everyone on their feet.
Beth and Jon had a really gorgeous but also totally chilled wedding day, we had lots of fun and I would definitely recommend getting married in an art gallery if you are looking for something quirky, cool, and stylish!
If you are looking for art gallery wedding photography, give me a shout, I’d love to capture more weddings in awesome spaces! I work with couples across the UK and abroad, photographing the emotion, fun, and beauty (and some off-the-scale parties!). From colourful tipi weddings and full-scale festival weddings to weddings in Tuscany and Alicante, whether I need my suitcase and sunscreen or my wellies, glowsticks and face glitter – I’ll be there, capturing those incredible memories.
